INBC saves lives by providing blood and services to support transfusion and transplantation medicine in the Inland Northwest.

High School Program

Over 14% of the entire annual blood supply here in the Inland Northwest comes as a result of high school sponsored blood drives. This is an extraordinary commitment on the part of these young adults supported by their school’s faculty, staff, and administrators. The following section outlines INBC’s H.E.R.O Program, an educational and recognition tool developed specifically for high schools.

SuperHeroThe High School H.E.R.O. Program (Help Educate, Recruit, and Organize) was developed to help encourage students maximize the effectiveness of their blood drives through education, building leadership skills, and recognition for their efforts. The program fosters a community service mind-set among students as they work with classmates, faculty, staff, society, and INBC to promote blood donation on behalf of patient care in the Inland Northwest.

As part of the H.E.R.O. program, INBC tracks the results of each blood drive held by the over 65 high schools that participate here in the Inland Northwest. Collectively, over 100 blood drives are sponsored during each academic school year. An award system, equitably determined by the population of each school’s junior and senior classes, encourages a spirit of friendly competition. The five award categories are as follows:

Highest number of registered donors.

The winners of each category are recognized for their achievements and presented with trophies at their school or during INBC’s annual High School Workshop & Luncheon held each fall. Announcements of the winning schools are sent to local newspapers or you can view the Award Winners list here.

The Inland Northwest Blood Center recognizes with great respect all of the high schools in this region for their on-going support. INBC would not be able to maintain a safe and adequate blood supply for patients throughout this region without the support and dedication exhibited by these valued community partners.

High School Sponsorship Opportunities!

ShirtEach year, the Inland Northwest Blood Center searches for sponsors to support the highly successful High School Program. This enables INBC to offer education and recognition in the form of such things as workshop materials, T-shirts, and award trophies. If you would like more information on how to become a High School Program sponsor, please contact INBC’s Development Department.

McDonalds and Bank of America logosINBC and all of the high schools within this region would like to extend gratitude to Bank of America and McDonald’s of Eastern Washington for the generous donations made on behalf of the 2005-2006 High School Program.
